Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund
Tickets for the Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund Charity Annual Barbeque are selling quickly and interested parties are urged to purchase immediately.
The BBQ will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 5, in conjunction with the City of Sky Valley’s Independence Day Celebration.
“We expect to sell out of BBQ tickets prior to the event,” said Bruce Gant, president of the Cancer Charity. “We are urging people to purchase tickets immediately so they don’t get left out,” he said, adding tickets are only sold in advance. No tickets will be sold at the event.
The BBQ, which occurs before the fireworks, will be drive-thru, take out only at the Sky Valley Country Club Pavilion. The BBQ dinner includes pulled pork, chicken leg quarters, cole slaw, baked beans, bottled water and a cookie all for the low price of $20 for adults and $10 for children 10 and under.
Since the BBQ is generally sold out prior to the event, the Sid Weber Board of Directors has authorized the sale of 525 dinners, that is 75 more than last year. However, residents and guests are urged to purchase tickets early because they expect again to sell out prior to the event.
Gant said thanks to generous sponsors all the proceeds from the BBQ will go directly to cancer patients in Rabun County.
“We have two new major sponsors this year,” Gant said. “Ingles Grocery Store and Walmart have joined in by supplying food. And, this event would not be possible without the donation of food, supplies and cooking by Sunday Diner.
In addition, he said The Farmstead Market in Clayton, Pharmacist Molly Keaton-Ledford, Sky Valley Country Club and Tomlin’s BBQ are all assisting with donations.
“And, we also want to thank the more than 40 volunteers who make this event possible by serving and packaging the food. Without our sponsors and volunteers, this BBQ would not be possible,” Gant said.
Tickets can be purchased at the Sky Valley Country Club Pro Shop, The Sky Valley Timeshares Office, Sky Valley City Hall and from any Sid Weber Cancer Fund Board Member. Tickets can also be purchased on-line at www.sidwebercancerfund.org so there is no excuse to miss out on this great event.
