Rabun County Wildcats
The “Lady Wildcat Volleyball Camp” hosted by Rabun County High School volleyball head coach April Jones will be next week from July 25-27 in the high school gym for school-aged girls between third and sixth grades.
The high school volleyball team will be working with the middle school team.
This camp will conclude the series of camps that were held in conjunction with the Rabun County Recreation Department.
The camp is set to run from 8:30 a.m. to noon each day as participants will learn the fundamentals of volleyball. The fee for the camp is $60.
Individuals are asked to make checks payable to RCABC and in the memo line write the word “Volleyball.”
The RCHS Lady Cats completed a three-day, all-day team camp on July 20 and the first volleyball match of the season will be on Aug. 9.
Jones said RCHS has four seniors this year with three of whom returning players. The varsity lineup has girls who have played for several years at the high school and for club teams.
While Jones said the junior varsity team will be young team this season, the start of the middle school program in 2021 helped add players with at least one year of experience. Jones said she has four returning players on the JV.
With the RCHS’s reclassification from AA, the Wildcats in 2022 will play in the Class A Division 1 in 2022-2023. RCHS will be joined in Region 8 by Athens Christian, Barrow Arts and Sciences, Commerce, Elbert County, and Tallulah Falls.
During June and July, the recreation department hosted camps for ballet, baseball, basketball, cheerleading, football, pickleball, tennis and volleyball. Swimming also has been open at the recreation department and a golf tournament was held on June 22.
