Lucy Vogelbacher of Rabun Gap, recently earned the Billy Mitchell Award and rank of Cadet Second Lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol (CAP).
This milestone is CAP’s equivalent of Eagle Scout and is earned through development of leadership skills, aerospace knowledge, physical fitness, all while exhibiting respect, integrity and volunteer service.
Colonel Jeffrey Garrett, who is the Commander of the Georgia Wing and oversees the 2,600 CAP personnel and 35 CAP squadrons in the state, presented the award.
For the Currahee Squadron, which moved from Toccoa to Mountain City in 2022, this is the first Billy Mitchell Award in five years.
