Food Bank of Northeast Georgia
Athens, GA – September is Hunger Action Month -- a nationwide invitation for communities to engage and take meaningful action in the fight against hunger.
Held annually, Hunger Action Month is nationwide campaign to highlight the critical issue of food insecurity, which effects 1 in 7 people and 1 in 6 children in Northeast Georgia.
During the month-long campaign, the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia will be raising awareness and encouraging action across their 15-county service area.
“It’s very simple to join the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia in our mission to connect our neighbors with nourishing food, and September – Hunger Action Month – is a great time to partner with us,” said Kelly Klein, director of Development at the Food Bank. “We’re asking people to do one -- or a combination - of three things: Donate. Volunteer. Or Hunker Down Against Hunger. For every $1 donated, we can provide three balanced meals to our neighbors.”
ν Donate: Give a financial donation. Become a monthly donor. Host a 3rd party event. Set up a food and fund drive at your office. Encourage your customers to support the Food Bank with an online contribution.
ν Volunteer: Serve with us at the Food Bank. Make it a day of service/team-building opportunity for your colleagues.
ν Hunker Down Against Hunger: Register for Hunger Bowl, a friendly regional competition to raise food and funds for the Food Bank. This campaign is just 2 weeks in the Fall - Oct. 18 - Nov. 1, 2024.
Across Northeast Georgia, the need for food remains high. Recent data from Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap reveals a 30 percent rise in food insecurity across Northeast Georgia. “Our neighbors often face impossible trade-offs between food and housing, childcare, medical care, or transportation,” said Klein. “The Food Bank believes hunger is a challenge we can overcome. The impact of each individual action is multiplied when we work together. We invite everyone to join the movement to end hunger.”
