The Rabun County Board of Education named Steven Cole as the sole finalist in the search for a new superintendent during a special called meeting Thursday, Aug. 1.
Current Superintendent Dr. April Childers announced in June she was retiring effective Sept. 30.
"After 14 days, the board will vote to confirm the appointment and set the new superintendent's start date," according to a news release from Rabun County Schools.
Cole looks to come to Rabun County from Fayette County, where he spent 29 years as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. In 2021, he was promoted to Fayette County’s assistant superintendent of operations.
In 1992, Cole was a member of the University of Alabama national championship football team.
