Lake Rabun group tops $2 million in local giving

CLAYTON—In 1987, a group of families living on Lake Rabun decided to take an active role in the community. They started small, giving out their first $1,000 college scholarship to a Rabun County student.

Crane falls on houses

A crane caused significant property damage to two homes on Bogey Lane in Sky Valley when it malfunctioned while cutting down a tree in early afternoon March 3, according to Sky Valley Police Chief Vaughn Estes.  No injuries were reported.

Rotary Donates 4,000 masks

The Rotary Club of Clayton was busy this week distributing free masks to local non-profit agencies.

DILLARD-- Rabun County Republicans discussed 2021 election demographics and marketing strategies for the party’s fundamental ideas at their monthly meeting on Saturday at The Dillard House Conference Center.  It was the first meeting back after a weeks-long hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Bell, serving two life sentences, seeks new trial

CLAYTON-- A Rabun County man serving two life sentences plus 20 years for conviction of a crime against an underage girl was back in court Tuesday with an amended motion for a new trial.  Eugene Bell, 29, of Rabun County, was convicted of aggravated assault, rape and kidnapping on April 11, 2019.

Renovated library now open for business

CLAYTON-- The Rabun County Public Library is now open after being closed for over a month for extensive renovations.  The library received a Major Repair and Renovation grant from the Georgia Public Library Service to fund the project.
