It was God’s perfect timing that put Sky Valley Police Officer Andrew Williams in the right place at the right time when he rescued a couple from a house fire at 1824 Ridgepole Drive in Sky Valley on the evening of Jan. 22. The heroic rescue caught the attention of Georgia’s Ninth District U.S.

Airing of grievances at town hall

More than 200 people filed into a standing room-only Rabun County Civic Center Tuesday with concerns and questions about county ordinance enforcement, permits and county responsibilities in a town-hall meeting.

Ramshackle returns for third year

The downtown Clayton bonanza of fun with music, art and food called Ramshackle will be back for its third year with a full new slate of entertainment. Like the previous two years that drew thousands to Main Street and beyond, the all-day event will be on the first Saturday in June.

Motorists traveling through the city of Dillard on Highway 441 are no stranger to roadwork in the area as the highway widening project is underway.

Sky Valley celebrates Georgia Arbor Day with officials’ planting of cherry tree

City of Sky Valley officials recently passed an official Tree City USA proclamation declaring Friday, Feb. 20, as Arbor Day in the City of Sky Valley. The proclamation passed unanimously during the Tuesday, Feb. 17, council meeting and was signed by Mayor Benita Cotton-Orr.

Roadwork on Hwy. 441 expansion ongoing

Many motorists traveling on Highway 441 through Rabun Gap and Mountain City saw a lot of the bumper of the vehicle in front of them during the lunchtime commute on Tuesday, Feb. 17, as crews continue to work on widening Highway 441.

Mountain Education Rabun Campus senior James Oliver McDade has been named one of the school’s 2026 PAGE STAR Students. McDade chose Tessa Backer, music teacher at Rabun County High School, as his STAR Teacher. Backer is a chorus teacher at Rabun County High School.
