Clayton swears in newly elected officials

CLAYTON– Clayton candidates for mayor and council members elected Nov. 2 were sworn-in to office Monday by Probate Judge Carlton H. Jones III. The ceremony was held in the courtroom of the Clayton Municipal Complex. Kurt Cannon took the Oath of Office as mayor.

Dillard elected officials sworn-in

Dillard candidates for mayor and council member positions were sworn-in to office Tuesday by Probate Judge Carlton H. Jones III in the Probate Courtroom at the Rabun County Courthouse. The city of Dillard did not hold an election Nov. 2 because all candidates ran unopposed.

Gusts bust 2022 wide open

Heavy storms and extreme wind gusts overnight Sunday brought downed trees, power outages, tree limbs and debris scattered across Rabun County and surrounding counties. Some areas of Rabun County received snowfall. The storm left 2,380 Georgia Power customers without power as of Monday at 9:30 a.m.

When the Wildcats kick off the 2022 football season, currently no member of the Shaw family is projected to be the head coach of the reigning region championships after 10 years of a Shaw at the helm.

Storm brings downed trees, power outages across Rabun County

Heavy storms overnight brought downed trees and power outages across Rabun County and surrounding areas.  As of 9:30 a.m. Monday, there were 2,380 Georgia Power customers without power, according to Chad Nation, Georgia Power spokesman.

Resurfacing of roads on Mountain City's FY 2022 budget

MOUNTAIN CITY– Mountain City council members passed its $375,896.73 FY 2022 budget at a Dec. 14 council meeting. Last year’s budget was $372,872.63. Among projects for the year is the resurfacing of city roads. Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) grants are budgeted at $17,416.

Students learn joy of giving during holidays

Rabun County Primary School students in Rachel Dixon and Parapro Beth Thompson’s second grade class recently learned the importance and joy of giving at Christmas by providing meals to Rabun County first responders.

COVID-19 cases have rapidly increased over the holiday weekend, according to a statement from District 2 Public Health Monday. The number of cases nearly doubled in Georgia since Friday due to the Omicron variant.
