Winter weather is in full force in Rabun County as portions of the county, and other areas in the region, were hit with high winds, fallen trees and a hail storm Thursday, Jan. 12. Bad weather is the theme this winter since the season officially began Dec.

Local officials band together for broadband

Rabun County was once again booted out of state funding for broadband expansion  as Gov. Brian Kemp announced on Jan. 4 the second batch of grant funds to increase high-speed internet access in 28 counties – which does not include Rabun.

Compliance key with county’s short-term rental ordinance

Amendments to Rabun County’s Short-Term Rental (STR) Ordinance are official as the Rabun County Board of Commissioners approved the passage in a unanimous vote on Dec. 27, 2022, after six months of public meetings, debate and several drafts.

Two blazes destroy residences in county

Rabun County Fire Services responded to two structure fires recently with both resulting in total residential losses. The first fire occurred on Jan. 6 at 137 Pond View Drive in the Glassy Mountain area near Tiger, according to a press release from the Rabun County Fire Services.

MOUNTAIN CITY– Mountain City Police Chief Tom Garrison has officially retired after 28 years of law enforcement service, with 18 of those years as Mountain City Chief of Police.
