Auditor: Clayton finances 'in good shape'

CLAYTON-- The city of Clayton is “in good shape” financially according to the FY 2020 audit presented by Jay Green at Tuesday’s council meeting.  Council member Ara Joyce was not present for the regular council meeting, but was present for the prior executive session.

Collaboration called 'key' at first Forward Rabun board meeting

CLAYTON-- Collaboration among community leaders was the focal point for Tuesday’s Forward Rabun board meeting held at the Rabun County Civic Center.  This was the first meeting of the full 21-member board since the conception of  Forward Rabun.

Freedom Lighthouse celebrates 2 years at Lakemont facility

LAKEMONT-- Freedom Ministries Lighthouse, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Rabun County, celebrated their two-year anniversary at the Lakemont facility last Thursday.  It’s a nine-month Christ-centered recovery residence for men. It provides in-house and outpatient services to people in the community.

Clayton council considering sidewalk request

CLAYTON-- Clayton City Council members discussed a variance request for a patio in front of a business on Main Street and a rezoning request for the Rabun County Public Library at Tuesday’s work session.

Beck Funeral Home seeks variance for proposed crematorium

CLAYTON-- Clayton City Council members discussed a variance request from Sam Beck to operate a crematorium out of his business, Beck Funeral Home, at Tuesday’s council work session.  Beck is also the Coroner for Rabun County.

Lake Rabun group tops $2 million in local giving

CLAYTON—In 1987, a group of families living on Lake Rabun decided to take an active role in the community. They started small, giving out their first $1,000 college scholarship to a Rabun County student.

Crane falls on houses

A crane caused significant property damage to two homes on Bogey Lane in Sky Valley when it malfunctioned while cutting down a tree in early afternoon March 3, according to Sky Valley Police Chief Vaughn Estes.  No injuries were reported.
