SOFTBALL Rabun County: The Rabun County softball team swept South Atlanta (7-0, 7-0) in the first round of the GHSA Class AA state playoffs Monday. Details on the Wildcats’ opening-round victory will be in next week’s edition of The Clayton Tribune.

RABUN GAP — The Rabun Gap-Nacoochee football team earned a win in an uncommon way last week: by forfeit. Victory Christian Center was forced to forfeit last Friday’s scheduled game at Rabun Gap due to not having enough players for competition.

Rabun’s Wright finishes high at Autumn Breeze 5K

Rabun County cross country runner Molly Jo Wright was the top female finisher at the 17th annual Autumn Breeze 5K in Tallulah Falls last Sunday afternoon. Wright placed 15th overall, clocking in at 23:09.2. Aiden Thaxton of Mount Airy finished first overall, earning the top male finish in 19:20.6.

Eagles throttle Lions behind fast start, defense

The Rabun Gap-Nacoochee football team scored three first-quarter touchdowns and used a stout defensive effort to dominate Hickory Grove Christian (N.C.) 55-0 in Charlotte, N.C., last Friday night. The Eagles (4-2, 1-0 NCISAA Carolinas) shut down the Lions’ offense, allowing only 21 yards.

Rabun faces Banks’ wing-T offense for homecoming night

TIGER — While the majority of high school offenses use the popular spread scheme, Banks County is one program using the wing-T offense, relying on multiple formations and a four-back rushing attack that depends heavily on play-action passing and misdirection.

SOFTBALL Rabun County: With a sweep of Social Circle in the first round of the Region 8-AA tournament, the Rabun County softball team clinched the GHSA Class AA state playoffs at Social Circle last Wednesday. The Wildcats won 10-5 in Game 1, before rallying to a 9-8 victory in Game 2.

TIGER — Behind some timely kills and opposing errors, the Rabun County volleyball team earned a 2-0 sweeping win against Putnam County, before hanging on to beat Union County 2-1 on senior night at Ken Byrd Court last Thursday night.
