(Editor’s note: This is the first part in a series of stories detailing my career as a sports journalist. I’m not sure how many stories I’ll tell, but I have some to discuss. Some good. Some bad. Some ugly. These are the stories I’ve shared with friends and family, although some I’ve never shared.

Tourism board votes to cease operations

CLAYTON—The Rabun County Tourism Development Authority board of directors voted 8-4 last Wednesday to cease functioning as of Sept. 15 and turn all assets and programs over to the county.

RABUN GAP— Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School’s theme for the 117th academic school year is “building one community” and newcomer Jeff Miles is looking forward to building a strong relationship with the Rabun County community and the students and faculty of Rabun Gap as the 11th Head of School.

Fire incident under investigation

RABUN GAP— The exact cause and nature of a Rabun Gap fire is under investigation after two people were airlifted following severe burns on Wednesday, Sept. 4. Rabun County Emergency Medical Services and Rabun County Fire Services were dispatched at 8:12 p.m.

Tallulah Falls reviews town zoning map

TALLULAH FALLS— An update to the 1999 zoning map of Tallulah Falls was the hot topic of discussion at a meeting at Tallulah Falls City Hall last Thursday. The meeting was a joint work session of Tallulah Fall’s City Council, Downtown Development Authority and Planning Commission.

Tallulah Falls Indians of the Month

Tallulah Falls School coaches have selected their Indian Athletes of the Month for August.  Middle school girl: Eighth-grader Julianne Shirley of Clarkesville was named an Indian of the Month by middle school volleyball coach Whittney LaHayne.

TFS kicks off cross country season with annual quadrathlon

Tallulah Falls School Middle School and varsity cross country runners gathered at Terrora Beach at Tallulah Gorge State Park to compete in the school’s annual quadrathlon last month. The strenuous, multi-discipline race included kayaking, swimming, biking and running.

Youth football returning to Frank Snyder Memorial Stadium

The Rabun County Recreation Department will have youth football games at Rabun County’s Frank Snyder Memorial Stadium on Sept. 28. Rabun 7U plays Franklin County at 9 a.m. Rabun 8U plays Franklin County at 10:30 a.m. Rabun 9U plays Hart County at noon. Rabun 10U plays Hart County at 1:30 p.m.

PREP ROUNDUP: Rabun softball cruises past Clarke Central

SOFTBALL Rabun County: The Rabun County softball team cruised past Clarke Central 11-3 in a non-region contest last Friday. The victory rebounded the Wildcats from a 15-7 loss against Oglethorpe County last Thursday. Rabun had 11 hits, led by Cailyn Dickerson’s three.

Rabun focuses on health, basics during bye week

TIGER — After getting off to a healthy 2-0 start to the football season, Rabun County used its first bye week to focus on the health of its players, while keeping fundamentals sharp. “It is a chance for guys to get their bodies back healthy.
