Just because you can’t see or feel something, doesn’t mean it’s not there and Elizabeth Harper learned this first-hand when she was diagnosed with breast cancer last December at age 59. “When they found my cancer, it was very small and in the beginning stages,” Harper said.

Georgia ForestWatch, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection and restoration of Georgia’s national forests, was announced in September as a winner of the Clean Water Heroes in 2019 Clean 13 Report from the Georgia Water Coalition.

Business Park sale moved to end of the year

 RABUN GAP— The $8.1 million sale of the 1-million-square-foot Rabun Business Park building to ELK Group International has once again been postponed, this time to the end of the year, almost six months after the initial closing date of July 31.
Weldon Wahl, plant manager for the Parkdale Rabun Gap facility, takes Rep. Doug Collins, who represents Georgia’s 9th congressional district, on a tour of the Parkdale textile plant in Rabun County last Thursday. Wahl showed Collins the automated machinery inside the facility and introduced him to some of Parkdale’s employees. Parkdale is one of the largest providers of spun yarns in the world.

 RABUN GAP— Rep. Doug Collins was spotted in Rabun County last week visiting Parkdale, a textile plant that manufactures and globally trades spun yarn.   Parkdale’s largest plant is located in Rabun Gap on John Beck Dockins Road and the company has 26 factories in the United States.

DILLARD— The city of Dillard issued a notice of a new Animal Control Ordinance for residents living in city limits. Glenda Enloe, city clerk, said that the notice went out with the October water bills and is effective as of Aug. 13, 2019.

Food Bank serves 5 counties from Clayton location

 Clayton— The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia was founded in 1992 in an effort to end hunger in 14 counties. A facility came to Rabun County in 2008 and has since provided programs and resources to anyone in need, never turning anyone away.
