Local residents are concerned about a proposed change to U.S. Forest Service rules that some say would eliminate public input on decisions about timber and land management. The Forest Service proposed in June to revise its National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) regulations.

RABUN GAP— The Rabun County Tourism Development Authority has informed county development director Rick Story they don’t want to be part of a new organization called Forward Rabun announced by the county commission earlier this year.

DILLARD—As the sweet strains of mandolins and mournful wail of fiddles played in the background, Barbara Owens Delong talked Friday about her childhood days growing up on Scaly Mountain, attending school in Dillard and listening to picking and singing every chance she got.

TIGER— The Rabun County site of Mountain Education Charter High School was recently awarded Site of the Year and had a dinner celebration for faculty and staff at their school in Tiger on Monday.

New teachers, staff ready for start of school year

TIGER— The 2019-2020 school year has officially begun for students in Rabun County and the new school year welcomed new educators ready to share their wildcat pride. Met with new superintendent Dr.

Tim Brown, Deputy Beth Darnell, Deputy Chris Bartolomey and Deputy Lisa Thompson don their protective gear to train in the Heightened Emergency Response Officer (HERO) program at Rabun County Middle School on July 31 in preparation for the new school year. Lt. Mark Gerrells from the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office trains the SROs on this program.

The state of Georgia is gearing up for the 2020 election year and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger selected Dominion Voting Systems as the company to implement the new verified paper ballot voting systems throughout the state, according to the Georgia Secretary of State’s website.
