CLAYTON—Last fall, Rick Story thought he was on the last stop of an interesting career path. The Rabun County native served in Washington and Atlanta as an aide to Nathan Deal. He’d been an aide to legendary evangelist Billy Graham.

CLAYTON—Even before there was a Rabun County, Baptists were gathering to worship in Clayton. This past Sunday, Clayton Baptist Church held a special service to mark their 200th anniversary with praise, song, food and remembrance.

County tax bills going down slightly next year

Rabun County Commissioners passed a resolution Monday to adopt the tax rate 10.083 for the year 2019, a decrease from last year’s rate. The previous millage rate was 10.12, according to David Conley, chief financial officer for Rabun County, in a phone interview Monday.

RABUN GAP— The Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority (RCWSA) and the city of Clayton are restructuring the way master water meters are read for the city of Clayton after the RCWSA signed a resolution to accept ownership of sanitary sewer infrastructure from the county at their August meeting.

CLAYTON— Clayton City Council members passed a motion to increase the millage rate to 8.7685, or 8.769 rounded up, for the FY 2020 budget in a 3-2 vote at the Clayton City Council meeting on Tuesday.

TIGER — When the Rabun County football team traveled to Statesboro to open its regular season at the annual Erk Russell Classic last year, it had a lot to endure. Bremen’s defense kept the game gridlocked at 10 and thunderstorms delayed the contest on two separate occasions.
