Memorial Day ceremony honors soldiers who made ultimate sacrifice

Memorial Day is a time to reflect and honor those brave men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces who paid the ultimate sacrifice and died in service to the country. Veterans and patriotic Americans came out to the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Rabun County Courthouse May 29.

LBCA Fourth Annual Vintage Wooden Boat Parade and Show

LAKE BURTON-- It was perfect weather during the Fourth Annual Lake Burton Civic Association Vintage Wooden Boat Parade and Show which had 32 wooden boats set sail on Lake Burton Sunday, May 28. “The LBCA’s Wooden Boat Parade was a huge success,” the LBCA posted on social media.

DILLARD-- At The Dillard House, food, music and community fun brought a crowd of people on the Oaklawn Sunday, May 28. Patrons danced and sang to live music provided by Hunter Grayson.

Traffic stop yields approximately $183,000 worth of drugs seized

A traffic stop conducted by Rabun County Sheriff’s Office deputies on May 24 on Ga. 15 resulted in the seizure of 6 kilos of suspected cocaine and 8 ounces of suspected marijuana, valued at approximately $183,000, according to information released by the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office.

City of Sky Valley cuts ribbon on new City Hall

SKY VALLEY– The City of Sky Valley cut the ribbon on its new City Hall located with a Forward Rabun/Rabun County Chamber of Commerce event Friday, May 26.

County approves preliminary budget at $28 million

The Rabun County Board of Commissioners approved the preliminary budget for FY 2024 in the amount of $28,336,468 during a special called meeting Thursday, May 25. This is about a $1,255,00 increase from last year’s budget, CFO David Conley explained during the meeting.

Lake Rabun Foundation awards 2023 student scholarships

The Lake Rabun Foundation Scholarship Program recipients were honored at the Lake Rabun Association’s annual Memorial Day meeting on Sunday, May 28. Students were introduced to the membership and recognized at the Lake Rabun Pavilion.

Foxfire writing contest winner

Sixth grader Audrey Sepulveda, center, is the winner of the Foxfire Spring Writing Contest for kids ages 6-12 at the Rabun County Public Library. The topic was Woodland Animal Story. Sepulveda said she was “excited” her story about a bunny being saved from a fox won the contest.
