New school year is near

Summer is coming to a close for local students as Rabun County Schools System will have its first day of classes at the beginning of August. Kindergarten through 12th grade will have their first day of 2023-2024 on Tuesday, Aug. 8. Pre-K’s first day will be Friday, Aug. 11.

County cuts non-native, invasive plants for safety

The area around the Rabun County Public Library and Rabun County Tax Commissioner’s Office is looking a little less shady as some of the trees were cut down recently for an expansion of the parking lot and safety reasons.

Construction of the 750,000 gallon ground-level water storage tank located on Yorkhouse Road in Rabun Gap continues as crews completed the pre-stressed wire and structural concrete on the exterior last week.

Hwy. 365 crashes take 5 lives, injure 7 others

Habersham County suffered two horrific crashes over the weekend, the worst of which killed five people, including two small children. Both crashes occurred on Highway 365, which has been notorious for being one of the most dangerous highways in the region.
