Clayton city council votes 3-2 to roll back millage rate

Clayton City Council members voted in a 3-2 motion to adopt the 2023 rollback millage rate of 7.476 at Tuesday’s meeting. Council members Woody Blalock, David Cross and John Bradshaw voted in favor of the motion while Amanda Harrold and Althea Bleckley opposed. The millage rate of 7.

Rabun County Fire Services works structure, camper fires

A structure fire on Aug. 8 at 454 Luther Watts Rd. and a camper fire on Aug. 10 located at 1455 Highway 441 South caused significant damage to both residences. Rabun County Fire Services reported in their weekly report they were dispatched to Luther Watts Road in reference to a structure fire.

Forward Rabun/Rabun County Chamber of Commerce celebrated its newest member “Hangers Plus” with a fantastic Ribbon-Cutting and Open House Event on Friday, Aug. 4, at its location,  91 E. Savannah Street, Clayton. The event was well attended with great refreshments following the ceremony.

CLAYTON– Clayton Police Department Sgt. William Wall and Clayton Police Chief Andy Strait were recognized for their outstanding service during the Clayton City Council meeting Tuesday. Wall was given a plaque from the police department thanking him for 10 years of “exemplary service.

Stormy weather does not rain on positive feedback for Downtown Clayton Block Party

Patrons of downtown Clayton didn’t let stormy weather rain on their parade as they showed up for the Downtown Clayton Block Party Saturday, Aug. 12, organized by the Clayton Merchants and Business Association (CMBA) despite the peppering of droplets and breezy conditions.

TIGER– Summer is officially over as students at Rabun County Schools were back in the classroom for the first day of the 2023-2023 school year Tuesday, Aug. 8. “Everyone at RCPS was so excited! The much anticipated day went great and we are looking forward to a great school year!

The Great American Art Show & Contest returned to Rabun County Saturday, Aug. 5, in Lakemont. People entered contest categories like Best Rap or Ditty; Best Poem; Best Song; Best Photograph; and Best Painting. The event was sponsored by Rob Callaway and community friends.
