Scaly Mountain Women’s Club sponsors scholarships

Scaly Mountain Women’s Club sponsors eight scholars in the Scaly/Sky Valley Fire District who are in good standing and currently receiving funds. New scholar, Reid Wheeler, is from Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School and plans to attend High Point University in High Point, N.C.

Rabun County resident wins UGA award

Athens, GA – Last Monday in front several hundred Bulldog fans, the National Football Foundation’s University of Georgia chapter held its 37th Annual Awards Presentation at the Athens Country Club.

LRA, LBCA join together on wake boat legislation

The Lake Rabun Association (LRA) and Lake Burton Civic Association (LBCA) have joined together in efforts on statewide legislation that would establish a buffer for certain activities involving wakeboarding and wakesurfing on the public lakes.

April is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month

The month of April is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month. Pinwheels displayed during the month of April are a sign to the community that child abuse exists and as a community we can do something about it. F.A.I.T.H., Inc.

Sky Valley celebrates the life and service of Bob Powers

Sky Valley celebrated the life and service of long-time Sky Valley Building Inspector and City Marshal Bob Powers at Tuesday’s city council meeting with a proclamation in his honor. Powers passed away at the age of 87 on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2022. He was an Army veteran.

Driver faces hit-and-run, other charges after fleeing crash scene

A Mableton, Ga., man faces hit-and-run and numerous other associated traffic-related charges following a single-vehicle crash on Wolffork Road near Ward Lane in Rabun Gap April 11 that injured a Seattle, Wash., man. Myles Elliott Bradley, 45,was traveling west on Wolffork Road  around 10:43 p.m.
