Current students and graduates of Western Carolina University use a net to catch insects in Bettys Creek and conduct insect monitoring to determine the health of the stream based on the the health of the insects. Dr. Bill McLarney, aquatic conservation biologist with Mainspring Conservation Trust, also led the group of students through a fish biomonitoring session as part of the Trust’s Stream Biomonitoring Program.
