Diane Rush was the winner of this year’s “People’s Choice Award for Best in Show” after attendees at the Painted Fern Art Festival cast their ballots Saturday, July 12, and Sunday, July 13. Rush exhibited her colorful paintings, many of which capture historic landmarks in and around Clayton. Several of her paintings also showcase the beautiful wildlife and nature in the Northeast Georgia area.

This year’s 10th annual Painted Fern Art Festival will feature more than 40 artists displaying their original work in a variety of media including painting, jewelry, clay, wood, metal, fiber, floral design, glass, photography, and multimedia. The event will be held inside the Rabun County Civic Center on Saturday, July 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, July 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Megan Horn/The Clayton Tribune. Rabun County native Joey Davenport displays this sizeable cabbage he grew in his garden on the east side of Clayton. Gardening for over 70 years, this year’s plantings include cabbage, watermelons, okra, beans, yellow squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes and tomatoes. In the past, the garden produced an 8-pound cabbage.
Megan Horn/The Clayton Tribune. This Sky Valley Grand Parade float on July 5 featured giant ducks on water with many decorated participants, marketing the annual Sky Valley Rubber Duck Race that had a lot of happy youth smiling. The float won First Place in the Grand Parade.
