Fairways and Fashions raises $$$ for F.A.I.T.H.

F.A.I.T.H. (Fight Abuse in the Home) hosted their yearly Fairways and Fashions event on May 20 at the beautiful Waterfall Club, overlooking Lake Burton. The fundraising event, featuring a golf tournament and fashion show, is one of the largest events that F.A.I.T.H. hosts each year.

Current students and graduates of Western Carolina University use a net to catch insects in Bettys Creek and conduct insect monitoring to determine the health of the stream based on the the health of the insects. Dr. Bill McLarney, aquatic conservation biologist with Mainspring Conservation Trust, also led the group of students through a fish biomonitoring session as part of the Trust’s Stream Biomonitoring Program.

Mountain City pinned ‘A Purple Heart City’

MOUNTAIN CITY– The City of Mountain City is the first city in Rabun County to be designated “A Purple Heart City” after council members passed a proclamation at Tuesday’s meeting.

Clayton passes agreements for Old Clayton Inn property

CLAYTON– Rabun County residents might be seeing new life brought into the Old Clayton Inn property in the future as City of Clayton council members recently passed a resolution and agreements for the project, which would be referred to as “Bridge Creek Inn” once completed.

The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office held a Ladies’ Firearm Safety Course at the sheriff’s office training facility in Tiger May 28. The class was instructed by Lt. Mark Gerrells who along with deputies volunteered their time to provide the class as a service to the community.

RCSO deputies seize $42,000 in cocaine

Rabun County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a search warrant in Rabun County on May 31 following a narcotics investigation. Upon execution of the search warrant, deputies seized approximately 420 grams of suspected cocaine.

Middle school yearbook earns national honor

The Rabun County Middle School yearbook, Wildcat Den, was chosen as one of the top five best middle school books in the nation by Herff Jones Publishing Company. The book was judged on design, coverage, and content.

Bus drivers needed at Rabun County Schools

Rabun County Schools is hiring bus drivers for the upcoming school year. The Transportation Department is holding an Open House on Thursday, June 9, from 5-7 p.m. at the Bus Shop, 385 Wildcat Pride Way, Tiger.
