Community honors fallen heroes on Memorial Day

CLAYTON– The Rabun County community and U.S. veterans from the county and surrounding counties came out to the Rabun County Courthouse to honor fallen heroes on Memorial Day. “Remember our fallen heroes. They are the reason that we are free,” the program handout noted.

Forward Rabun draws crowd for Business Expo Networking event

CLAYTON – A crowd turned out as Forward Rabun and the Rabun County Chamber of Commerce hosted a Business Expo, Networking and Luncheon Event on May 26 at the Rabun County Civic Center. The business event was organized to address the critical issue of employee recruitment and retention.

CLAYTON– Clayton City Council members and Clayton Planning and Zoning Board members held the first-ever two-hour joint meeting on May 12 in the Clayton City Hall courtroom to discuss the future of development in Clayton and strategize about how to allow growth in the future.

RCSO relocates

The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office has relocated to 56 Boen Creek Rd. in Tiger and is now open for business. Regular hours are from Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m; Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and closed daily for lunch from 1-2 p.m.

Food Bank of Northeast Georgia Teaching Kitchen grand reopening

The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia held a grand reopening of the Teaching Kitchen on May 20. The event was scheduled after the Teaching Kitchen had been closed for a period of time due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The lives of 151 from the Rabun County High School Class of 2022 will venture into their individual futures following the May 27 commencement at Frank Snyder Memorial Stadium.

Lake Burton Civic Association awards $130,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors of RCHS

Thanks to generous donations from members this year, the Lake Burton Civic Association is awarding 34 scholarships to Rabun County graduating seniors. These scholarships range from one to four years and have a total value over four years of greater than $130,000.

Environmental science happens every day that is location-specific to Rabun County’s nature and an elementary school fourth grade class got the chance to be part of that process. The class of Laurie Dills and Becky Flory accepted the “Great Georgia Pollinator Protectors Challenge.

Ramey pleads guilty to homicide by vehicle

A 25-year-old Rabun County man pled guilty to homicide by vehicle on May 18 in superior court in connection with an Aug. 8, 2020, hit-and-run crash that killed a 26-year-old Clayton pedestrian. The driver Chantz Rock Ramey was 24 at the time of the crash that resulted in the death of Mario Webb.

The rematch is set for the governorship of Georgia as Brian Kemp again will face Democratic opponent Stacey Abrams in November while Republican Peach State football legend Herschel Walker will meet incumbent Rev. Raphael Warnock for U.S. Senate.
