Court overrules rezoning approved by commissioners last year

Senior Judge G. Grant Brantley has overruled a rezoning decision approved by the Rabun County Board of Commissioners to rezone property at 8118 Bridge Creek Rd. from Agricultural (A) to Commercial Business (CB) for the development of storage units for boats, RV and self-storage.

Civil Air Patrol comes to Rabun County

Last week, the Civil Air Patrol 506th Currahee squadron held its first meeting at the Mountain City Playhouse. A group of cadets had been participating at the squadron headquarters in Toccoa, but started meeting locally to cut down on the commute and attract more youth from the area.

Registration begins for county sheriff’s office Citizens’ Academy

TIGER– Registration is now open for the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office Citizens’ Academy. The free Academy begins Tuesday, April 12 and is a nine-week course held one day a week on Tuesdays that gives citizens an opportunity to learn about the various operations of the sheriff’s office.

Lloyd Hunter is remembered by community members as a true public servant who was compassionate and helped anyone he could. Those who knew him well referred to him as a “pillar of the community” and a dependable, hard-working man.

RCHS alum Blackstock wins USMC Judge Advocate Award

U.S. Marine Corps Captain Paul R. Blackstock won the Brigadier General Michael E. Rich Trial Counsel of the Year Award for 2021. Blackstock, a 2010 graduate of Rabun County High School, is currently stationed in Camp Pendleton, Calif.
