Schools announce closures, State of Emergency issued ahead of significant winter weather Friday

Many roads throughout Rabun County remain hazardous in the aftermath of Winter Storm Cora.  The Rabun County Board of Commissioners announced that the Rabun County Courthouse and all county facilities will open at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14. This is a two-hour delay from normal operations.

The Consummate Coach: Remembering Sonny Smart

Sonny Smart, the father of Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart and Rabun County resident and former Wildcat coach, passed away early on Saturday, Jan. 4, due to hip surgery complications after falling in New Orleans, La.

New Orleans Sugar Bowl postponed amid terrorist attack on Bourbon Street

NEW ORLEANS — Pregame jubilation and anticipation was abruptly displaced with horror and safety concerns in New Orleans prior to the 91st Allstate Sugar Bowl as a pickup smashed through a city street filled with New Year’s partiers, killing 14 and injuring others.

After 9 weeks of being closed, NC106 reopens to motorists

While it didn’t reach the level of a Christmas miracle, motorists in Highlands and surrounding communities were treated to a pleasant surprise on Christmas Eve when NC106 reopened to vehicle traffic following a nine-week closure.

Community members support Cleanup at Stekoa Creek Park

Community members from Headwaters Master Gardeners, Chattooga Conservancy and Rabun County’s Boy Scout Troop 6 showed out for a Cleanup Day at Stekoa Creek Park on Saturday, Jan. 4. The focus was trash pickup and removal of invasive species such as English Ivy, Japanese Privet and Kudzu.
