April is National Child Abuse Awareness Month and pinwheels displayed during the month symbolize each case of confirmed child abuse in Rabun County. F.A.I.T.H.

Civil Air Patrol comes to Rabun County

Last week, the Civil Air Patrol 506th Currahee squadron held its first meeting at the Mountain City Playhouse. A group of cadets had been participating at the squadron headquarters in Toccoa, but started meeting locally to cut down on the commute and attract more youth from the area.

Registration begins for county sheriff’s office Citizens’ Academy

TIGER– Registration is now open for the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office Citizens’ Academy. The free Academy begins Tuesday, April 12 and is a nine-week course held one day a week on Tuesdays that gives citizens an opportunity to learn about the various operations of the sheriff’s office.

Hunter remembered as a public servant, pillar of community

Lloyd Hunter is remembered by community members as a true public servant who was compassionate and helped anyone he could. Those who knew him well referred to him as a “pillar of the community” and a dependable, hard-working man.

Raffensperger talks elections with Rabun County GOP

CLAYTON– Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger discussed election integrity and Georgia voting systems as the guest speaker at the Rabun County Republican Party meeting on March 21. The meeting was held at the Rabun County Civic Center in the diner.

U.S. Senate candidate Josh Clark hosts meet and greet in county

Candidate for U.S. Senate Josh Clark campaigned with his family in Rabun County March 18 by hosting a meet-and-greet. Clark previously served two terms in the Ga. House of Representatives.

RCHS alum Blackstock wins USMC Judge Advocate Award

U.S. Marine Corps Captain Paul R. Blackstock won the Brigadier General Michael E. Rich Trial Counsel of the Year Award for 2021. Blackstock, a 2010 graduate of Rabun County High School, is currently stationed in Camp Pendleton, Calif.

CLAYTON– It was standing room only at the City of Clayton courtroom Monday morning as crowds of citizens turned out to the public hearing of the City of Clayton Planning and Zoning Board on a rezoning for property located across from Clayton City Hall, 37 Bynum St./0 Holden st.
