Local groups seek funds for affordable housing

CLAYTON-- Forward Rabun has partnered with local nonprofits Habitat for Humanity and Fight Abuse in the Home (FAITH) to apply for the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing (GICH) grant through the University of Georgia (UGA) in an effort to provide affordable housing in Rabun County.

Rabun elections office moving to new location

CLAYTON-- The Rabun County elections office is relocating after the Rabun County Board of Elections and Registration voted unanimously at their June 2 meeting to move the elections office to 184 S Main St. Suite 102 in Clayton (area below the health department), due to spacing issues.

High-speed chase ends in drug seizure, arrest

CLAYTON-- An attempted traffic stop by Rabun County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) deputies on Highway 76 East at Rainey Mountain Rd. in Clayton on July 1 led to a high-speed chase and the arrest of a Clayton man.

Saint James hosts 14th Flower Festival

CLAYTON-- St. James Episcopal Church held its 14th annual Flower Festival with the theme “God’s Creation: Behold, I make all things new” at the church on Saturday.  The church is located at 260 Warwoman Rd. in Clayton.

DILLARD-- The Rabun County Republican Party heard from guest speaker Vernon Jones, who announced his candidacy for governor in 2022, at their monthly meeting held at the Dillard House Conference Center on Saturday.

Summer camp gives opportunity for teens to serve

TIGER-- Many summer camps give students opportunities to serve their communities and give back to those in need.  The Life Teen movement at Camp Covecrest in Tiger allows students to serve others in need through various projects while also serving Christ.

Panell named head of Rabun Emergency Management Agency

Brian Panell loves lending a helping hand to the people in  his community. It was that love that drove him to become a paramedic.  Panell was recently promoted to Rabun County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) director and began the position at the end of May.

Rescuers say that speciality training they received in Texas gave them the skills they needed to navigate through the strong current and locate a missing person on the Tallulah River in June.

Search and Rescue team risks hazards to serve

TIGER-- The Rabun County Search and Rescue team is made up completely of volunteers who dedicate their time to serve the residents of Rabun County.  There are approximately 40 team members.
