School board approves $30.8 million budget

TIGER-- The Rabun County Board of Education approved the FY 2022 budget for $30,813,071 at a called board meeting last Thursday.  Estimated expenditures increased by $1,433,331 and estimated revenues increased by $739,027.

Library shows off new renovations

CLAYTON-- The Rabun County Public Library held an open house last Saturday for the public to view the newly renovated library and meet the new library manager, Dyana Costello Banks.  Costello Banks gave opening remarks and welcomed visitors to the library.

Governor issues final public health order for COVID-19

ATLANTA – Gov. Brian Kemp Tuesday issued what is expected to be the last statewide public health emergency of the coronavirus pandemic era. The order will expire on Thursday, July 1, at 12 a.m.

Groups drop lawsuit over MLB All-Star game

ATLANTA – A business advocacy group that sued Major League Baseball (MLB) for moving the All-Star Game out of Georgia dropped the case Monday, nearly two weeks after an adverse court ruling.

Buffalo go missing, presumed to be roaming Rabun County

PERSIMMON-- Where do the buffalo roam?  Mary Serra and Mike English are still wondering after over a week of searching for their lost herd of bison in Rabun County.

Unemployed Georgians face cutoff of federal benefits

ATLANTA – Georgia is about to join 25 other mostly Republican-led states in cutting off supplemental federal unemployment benefits before the Biden administration ends the program in September.

Clayton council votes to dispute April water bill

CLAYTON-- Clayton City Council members voted Tuesday not to pay a $26,000 April water bill from the Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority (RCWSA) and to send a letter to them “stating that we (the city) disagree with the amended charge of $26,000.

Fatal wreck in Tiger Sunday

TIGER-- A fatal accident involving a single vehicle occurred around midnight Sunday on Glassy Orchard Rd. near Bridge Creek Rd. in Tiger, according to the Motor Vehicle Crash Report from Georgia State Patrol (GSP).  The victim’s residence is on Glassy Orchard Rd., according to the report.

Fink remembered for service to Rabun

Robert Noble (Bob) Fink, Sr. had many accomplishments throughout his life. His dedicated service to the Rabun County community and love for its people is something many remember most about him.  Fink, 87 of Clayton died on June 9, 2021 after an extended illness.
