Fatal boating accident on Lake Tugalo

LAKE TUGALO-- A firefighter/EMT for the Gainesville Fire Department died in a boating accident on Lake Tugalo Saturday, June 27 in the afternoon.  A Mountain City man is facing charges as a result of the incident.

Citizens question council on water system losses, transparency, budget

CLAYTON-- Clayton City Council members voted unanimously to approve the FY 2022 budget in the amount of $5,755,464 at a called meeting on Tuesday.  The budget increased from last year’s budget by $140,068. The FY 2021 budget was $5,615,396.  The budget is based on the estimated millage rate of 8.

CLAYTON-- The city of Clayton could soon see a rain garden along Stekoa Creek near Chechero St. as part of a green infrastructure project spearheaded by Chattooga Conservancy, a nonprofit grassroots conservation organization.

Playing bridge and drinking a glass of bourbon a day are two of Louise Kail’s favorite activities. And she loves being surrounded by friends and family.  At 100-years-old, Kail is a social butterfly and said the key to a long life is having faith, family and friends.

County to give raises, keep millage rate

CLAYTON-- The Rabun County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the FY 2022 budget of $23,570,092 at a called meeting on Tuesday.  Included in the budget is a five percent salary increase for all county employees across the board.
