Kilted athletes excel for charity

The North Georgia Highland Games came to Rabun County Saturday, Sept. 24. It featured kilted athletes competing in seven traditional Scottish games including caber toss; hammer throw; stone put; weights and more at the Rabun County Civic Center Pavillions.

The Rabun County varsity softball team defeated Athens Christian in extra innings 6-3 on Tuesday before defeating East Jackson 17-2 on Wednesday. Against Athens Christian, sophomore Jacie McCall hit a sac fly to bring home junior Mili Watts for the first run of the game.

The Rabun County High School varsity volleyball team hosted Union County and Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School volleyball. The Lady Cats played Union County first, defeating the Panthers in three sets 25-19, 14-25, 16-14.

TFS volleyball on four-match win streak

It had been a long layoff since the Lady Indians had taken the court, but #6-ranked TFS played four matches at Gainesville on Saturday. The girls dropped the first two matches before coming back to win the final two and claim the Silver Bracket Championship.

One thing was certain Friday night: one team would leave the night with their first loss of the season. The Rabun County High School football team made sure they stayed undefeated, beating Whitefield Academy 28-14 behind a four-touchdown night from senior quarterback Keegan Stover.
