Rabun County girls win two of three

A rough start last Friday paved the way for the Rabun County girls’ first defeat at Putnam County. Four days later, the team’s response was emphatic, a home Region 8-AA blowout of Oglethorpe County setting the Ladycats at 17-1 overall and 7-1 in league action.

Wildcats land 21 on all-Region 8-AA football squads

Following a Region 8-AA championship and a state quarterfinal run, 21 Rabun County High football players have earned all-region praise.  “It just speaks volumes of our coaching staff being able to develop our young guys,” RCHS head coach Jaybo Shaw said.

RCHS football players invited to represent the Wildcats

  Rabun County High School football players Will McCraw and Bear Old were invited to represent the Wildcats Dec. 20-22 at the seventh annual Georgia Elite Classic in Atlanta. Both played on the American team, which defeated the National team, 7-0.

  Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School baseball players recently trained with a professional hitting coach. The Eagles spent a day in Knoxville, Tenn. with coach Guillermo Martinez (second from left) of the Toronto Blue Jays. During a three-hour clinic, each player's swing was broken down and analyzed.

Andy Diffenderfer has joined The Clayton Tribune as sports editor, Publisher Wayne Knuckles announced this week. Diffenderfer, a native of Stone Mountain, Ga., is a veteran journalist who began his career as a general assignment reporter for the Daily Citizen News in Dalton, Ga. In 1995.

Tallulah Falls School honors three for athletic achievement

Former Tallulah Falls School student-athletes Ralph Daniel, Mike Kemp and Chris Pic became the most recent inductees into the school’s Athletic Legends/Hall of Honor Dec. 13.

Tallulah Falls girls edge Lake Oconee Academy

Following the lengthy holiday break, the Tallulah Falls girls hoopsters put four in double figures last Saturday and edged Lake Oconee Academy, 65-60. The Lady Indians (8-3) won their fifth straight as Katy Corbett scored a team-high 18 points.

RCHS boys work overtime to trip Monticello

Logging extra minutes last Saturday night, the Rabun County boys hoopsters defeated Monticello to halt a three-game losing string and secure their second Region 8-AA triumph.

Ladycats win a thriller over Franklin 51-47

TIGER – The Ladycats lost a fourth quarter lead, trailed late in the game but pulled out an exciting 51-47 win over the Panthers on Dec. 21. The Ladycat press generated five early turnovers as the Deetz sisters jumped the Ladycats to a 7-0 lead to start the game.
