Spiker Crosby to join Sewanee program

The University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., will welcome Ashley Crosby to its volleyball program after the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee senior announced plans to play there last Thursday afternoon.

White County kept Rabun County looking for its first baseball win last Saturday, blanking the Wildcats, 5-0 in Tiger. Rabun, which tumbled to 0-2, was limited to three hits. Jon Sego had two of them with a stolen base, and Garrett Horton the other.

Owens wins state 152 class; Eagles fourth

Senior Cole Owens captured Rabun Gap-Nacoochee’s first wrestling state championship at 152 pounds last weekend at the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association tourney in Charlotte. He is the first individual to win a state title since Niko Harrell in track several years ago.

Douglass roars back in fourth, trips Ladycats

A chance to advance and knock off the defending state champion slipped late from Rabun County’s grasp last Friday night, the Ladycats ousted by Douglass’ fourth-quarter rally, 44-42 in Atlanta. Ikenya King’s close-in hoop with 5.2 seconds left was the clincher in the opening-round Class AA scrap.

Pinecrest strikes at buzzer, edges Indians, 61-58

A long buzzer-beater from Pinecrest Academy’s Josh Boeye last Friday bounced Tallulah Falls from the Class A Private brackets, 61-58. Boeye, a senior, was 2-of-14 from the floor and 1-of-10 on three-pointers prior to the game-winner, launched from near half-court.

Two opening home games meant a split for the Tallulah Falls baseball squad, which shook off a loss to Athens Academy to batter Galloway the next day.  Johnson was the opponent on the road Feb. 18, and the Indians have an away doubleheader Saturday at Lake Oconee Academy.
