Pinecrest strikes at buzzer, edges Indians, 61-58

A long buzzer-beater from Pinecrest Academy’s Josh Boeye last Friday bounced Tallulah Falls from the Class A Private brackets, 61-58. Boeye, a senior, was 2-of-14 from the floor and 1-of-10 on three-pointers prior to the game-winner, launched from near half-court.

Indian nine divides first two games

Two opening home games meant a split for the Tallulah Falls baseball squad, which shook off a loss to Athens Academy to batter Galloway the next day.  Johnson was the opponent on the road Feb. 18, and the Indians have an away doubleheader Saturday at Lake Oconee Academy.

RGNS boys reach final eight, lose to Greensboro Day

The Rabun Gap-Nacoochee boys basketball team closed 16-13 over the weekend, but not before doing some damage in the state tournament. In the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association 4A bracket, the Eagles went on the road and beat Metrolina Christian, 84-81 Feb.

Indians qualify for state, set first-round Pinecrest duel

A Region 8-A quarterfinal loss Feb. 4 to Riverside Military Academy didn’t keep the Tallulah Falls boys from state. With the top 24 in the power ratings comprising the Class A Private bracket, the Indians (10-13) qualified as the 23rd seed.

College ahead for Wildcat gridders

By Andy Diffenderfer Sports editor National Signing Day is a happening at many high schools, and Rabun County High is no different. Football standouts Braxton Hicks, Sam Adams and Garrett Bragg cemented their college destinations Feb. 5 before dozens of friends, family, classmates and teammates.

Tournament losses send RCHS girls on road for state

With state starting Friday, the Rabun County High girls won’t have long to shake off a rough time at region. The Ladycats (23-3) started the weather-delayed 8-AA tournament last week as the No. 1 seeds.

Tallulah girls draw Paideia in Class A opener

A Region 8-A tournament split at Commerce put the Tallulah Falls girls at the state’s No. 16 seed, good for a first-round home game. The Lady Indians (16-7) will oppose 17th-seed Paideia of Atlanta in their opener Friday at 6 p.m., the winner to get top-seed St. Francis in the 24-team bracket.

State tourney next for Rabun Gap

The Rabun Gap-Nacoochee basketball girls will go to state on a winning note after edging Asheville Christian Academy Feb. 5 in overtime. Notching her second double-double of the season, Ramani Lewis menaced the Lady Lions with 13 points and a season-high 17 rebounds in a 41-40 triumph.

TFS swim marks reset in Atlanta

Tallulah Falls School swimmers showcased their stellar season at the 2020 Georgia High School Association 1A-5A state meet last Thursday through Saturday at Georgia Tech’s aquatic center.  According to head coach Rachel Nichols, the meet started with high expectations for time-dropping swims.
