Long-time Rabun coach, teacher Wayne passes

A fixture in Rabun County for decades and beloved by the community, Janice Wayne passed away on Wednesday, June 24, at the age of 72. Wayne – who many will remember as “Coach Wayne” – moved to Rabun County in 1976 and spent 38 years as a teacher and coach in the Rabun County School District.

Blalock takes oath of service for Naval Academy

CLAYTON – Recent Rabun County graduate and basketball standout Huey Blalock was administered his oath of service to the United States Naval Academy at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4570 in Clayton on Wednesday, June 24.

Wildcat Cheer hosts summer camp, camp showcase for community

TIGER – The Rabun County cheer program hosted its “Lil’ Wildcats Cheer Camp” last week at Rabun County Elementary School from June 22-25, as a record 88 campers attended.The total was the largest turnout the camp has ever had, Rabun County High School head coach Cristina Weber said.

Gunner amps up youth football camp

GAINESVILLE, GA – Fresh off a Southeastern Conference-winning season, former Rabun County record-setter and current Georgia Bulldog quarterback Gunner Stockton for a second consecutive year got to meet his younger fanbase first-hand at his youth football camp.

RCHS golf boasts inaugural ‘Wildcat Open’ Tournament

CLAYTON – The Rabun County golf program hosted the inaugural “Wildcat Open” golf tournament on Friday, June 5, at Kingwood Golf Club, benefitting the Rabun County High School boys and girls golf teams.

Giles, Blalock named to BLITZ HOF

Recent Rabun County High School graduates Reid Giles and Huey Blalock were named to the BLITZ Sports Class of 2026 Hall of Fame, Blitz announced on Monday. Giles was selected to the football HOF, while Blalock was named to the boys basketball Hall of Fame.

The Rabun County girls golf team finished 10th at the Class A Division I state championship tournament on May 18 and 19 at Arrowhead Pointe Golf Course at Richard B. Russell State Park in Elberton.

RCHS boys hoops hosts ‘Wildcats Basketball Camp’ at Rec Department

TIGER – The defending state champion Rabun County boys basketball program hosted its annual Wildcats Basketball Camp this week at the Rabun County Recreation Department for children aged kindergarten through seventh grade.

TIGER – The Rabun County baseball program hosted its summer camp this week, June 1-4 at Rabun County High School for children aged 6-12 years old.

Rabun boys tennis edged out of state title

ROME – The Rabun County boys tennis team’s history-making season came to an end with a loss in the state championship match as the Wildcats fell to No. 1-seeded Brantley County, 3-1, on May 13 at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga.
