Cause of fire on Hwy. 246 not yet confirmed

The cause has not yet been confirmed for a brush fire that spread for acres along the mountains on the north side of Highway 246 in Sky Valley on the afternoon of March 4, according to Wendy Burnett, public relations director for the Georgia Forestry Commission.

Rodriguez knows how to get things done

The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office constantly bustles with excitement from phones ringing off the hook, papers rustling and exchanging hands, people walking in and needing help, beeps coming from police scanners and dings from emails with Open Records Requests.

Rabun first responders receive well-deserved Life Saving awards

Rabun County first responders were presented with Life Saving Awards for their efforts in saving the life of a firefighter, Gordon Van Mol, who went into cardiac arrest while battling a brush fire Nov. 27.

Cat Gap Bridge closure advisory

The bridge on Cat Gap Rd. in Rabun County will be closed for approximately 120 days for the construction of a new bridge, according to a statement from Scott Provance, Rabun County road director. He said 911 numbers zero-1168 will be accessed from Plum Orchard Rd.

GMPA holds mental health march

CLAYTON– Georgia Mountain Psychological Associates held a Mental Health March and Candlelight Service to remember those who have lost their lives to mental illness on Feb. 22. The marchers walked over to The Rock House on Main Street for a service that turned out a crowd of people.
