Boxer/hound mix Eugene at Paws 4 Life is searching for a 'furever' home

TIGER-- Eugene is a boxer/hound mix and brindle who’s been at Rabun Paws 4 Life since Aug. 22, 2017. He’s looking for his loving furever home after being rescued from a neglect situation where he was malnourished from inadequate food and water.

Rabun Chamber president abruptly resigns

CLAYTON-- Rabun County Chamber of Commerce President and Retail Business Coordinator for Forward Rabun Cliff Bussard abruptly resigned Monday, according to Rick Story, director of development for Rabun County. The resignation was immediate.

Rollback millage rates adopted

CLAYTON-- The Rabun County Board of Commissioners adopted the FY 2022 millage rate of 9.678 mills in a special called meeting Aug. 5.  The vote was unanimous. This is the rollback rate from last year’s rate of 10.012.  Rabun County Schools recently adopted the rollback rate of 9.

Qualifying for Nov. 2 election starts Monday

CLAYTON-- Qualifying for the Nov. 2 election starts Monday.  Candidates interested in running for office can go by the Rabun County Board of Elections Office, 18 Old Raco High Drive, Monday through Thursday, Aug. 16-19, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, August 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Dickerson Hardware Company was established in 1948. The park is located at 65 Wilson Alley (behind the former Dickerson Hardware Building) to honor Dickerson for his contributions to Rabun County.  The project was spearheaded by the Rabun County Downtown Development Authority.

DDA completes Charlie Mac Dickerson Memorial Park

CLAYTON-- Charlie Mac Dickerson Sr. is described by some as a “cornerstone in the community” who was a hard worker and avid community servant.  He established Dickerson Hardware Company in 1948 and was heavily involved in community service projects and clubs in Rabun County.

Trail dedicated to couple who maintained it for 25 years

TALLULAH FALLS-- The North Entrance to the Tallulah Falls Shortline Trail was dedicated to Bill and Dustie Mackay, two people who have maintained the trail for 25 years, at a ceremony on Tuesday.  State legislation was passed to make the dedication official.

School Resource Officers prepare for new year

TIGER-- Rabun County School Resource Officers (SROs) spent the summer preparing for the school year and accumulated over 551 hours of combined training hours in just 2.5 short months, according to a statement posted on the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
