Neely remembered as 'coworker and friend'

James Leslie “Les” Neely is remembered by friends and coworkers as someone who was exceptional at his job and always helped everyone he could.  Neely, 53, of Rabun County died on Aug. 19 at Mountain Lakes Medical Center.  He served Rabun County as a code enforcement officer for 28 years.

Candidates qualify for November elections

CLAYTON-- Qualifying for the Nov. 2 local election ended Friday and three cities have candidates vying for contested seats.  Clayton, Tallulah Falls and Mountain City have mayoral and council member seats up for grabs.

Commissioners vote on TSPLOST agreement, referendum resolution

CLAYTON-- Rabun County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to enter into a Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with the cities of Clayton, Dillard, Mountain City, Sky Valley, Tallulah Falls and Tiger.

Trial continues in 2014 boating death

Space camp was 'out of this world' for student

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-- Former Rabun Gap student Delphine Hard of Otto, N.C. took a trip to outer space on her ninth birthday and attended Space Camp at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala.  “Space camp was super fun. It was out of this world,” Hard said.

Sheriff's office expansion 'moving along great'

TIGER – Construction is underway on the $7 million project to expand the Rabun County Detention Center and build a new sheriff’s office.  “This project is moving along great,” said Sheriff Chad Nichols.

Heavy rains from Tropical Storm Fred moved through Rabun County Tuesday. Flash flooding and downed trees were reported throughout the county, resulting in temporary road closures.

CDC: Rabun's level of COVID community transmission still high

Rabun County’s level of COVID-19 community transmission is still classified as high, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data tracker Tuesday.  Towns, Habersham, Stephens and White counties also have classifications of high, based on the data.
