Proposal addresses Clayton's accounting practices

The City of Clayton’s financial accounting practices may be getting a complete overhaul. Elaine Kent and Brenda Norton, financial consultants working under the banner of Local Government Consulting Services LLC, submitted a proposal to Clayton City Council Aug. 23 during a called meeting.

Story is new Chamber president

CLAYTON— Rick Story was selected as the new President of the Rabun County Chamber of Commerce Tuesday.  “I am deeply honored and incredibly humbled,” Story said in a statement.

Kemp sending more Georgia National Guard troops for COVID fight

ATLANTA – Gov. Brian Kemp committed up to 2,500 Georgia National Guard troops Monday to fighting the surge of COVID-19 cases across the state.

Verdict reached in case involving 2014 boating death

CLAYTON-- After a two-week trial a verdict has been reached in the case involving the death of a 7-year-old Florida boy on Lake Burton in July 2014. The trial began with opening remarks Aug. 17 Ryan Paul Batchelder, 7 of Lake Worth, Fla.

ESPN returning for Wildcats' Saturday game against Pace

Welcome back, ESPN. For the second straight season, the network will find its way to Rabun County, this year for the Wildcats’ 6 p.m. showdown Saturday with fellow Class AA program Pace Academy at Frank Snyder Memorial Stadium. The game, to be aired on ESPN2, is also Rabun County’s home opener.

Historic canoe removed from Chattooga, awaiting transport to Clayton

After six weeks of extreme manual effort, an ancient dugout canoe has been retrieved from Section III of the Chattooga River. The heart pine, hand carved canoe was discovered late last year by a group of paddlers and its location reported to the Chattooga Conservancy.

Rob Lowe spotted in Rabun filming movie

It was lights, camera, action in Rabun County last week as Rob Lowe was spotted filming a movie.  The name of the movie is “Dog Gone,” according to Pam Thompson, camera-ready liaison for Rabun County to the film industry in Georgia.
