Paws 4 Life distributes 214 rabies vaccinations

Rabun Paws 4 Life Shelter administered 214 rabies shots at its vaccine clinic held at the Rabun Arena last Saturday.  “It went as smoothly as any I’ve ever seen,” said Dr. Stephen Arbitter of Rabun Animal Hospital, who administered the vaccines.

Voters urged to track absentee ballots in mail

Election season is in full swing with early voting, and absentee ballot requests have surged due to COVID-19. Some voters have had concerns about absentee ballots being returned back to them by the post office and not making it to the election’s office.

Emphasis is on the students during Bus Safety Week

This week is National Bus Safety Week and the theme is “red lights mean stop.”  Marty Dixon, transportation director, said that the theme emphasizes the importance of motorists stopping for school buses and being aware of Georgia law.

The holidays are a time to take a break from the hustle and bustle of life and come together with friends and family to create memories.  This family time was crucial for Angela Luke when she was hit with a diagnosis of breast cancer the day after Christmas in 2017.

Deputy has prior history of unprofessional work conduct

CLAYTON--In June of this year, an outside investigation requested by Sheriff Chad Nichols determined that Rabun County Sheriff’s Office employee Richard Hunter was guilty of nine instances of unprofessional conduct, including making inappropriate remarks to a subordinate’s wife over the telephone.

Webb relies on faith and family for cancer healing

A breast cancer diagnosis can seem devastating for anyone, but for Fran Webb it’s been an unexpected blessing.  “I look at this as a blessing. Because it’s showing me things in my life I need to work on,” Webb said.

Record turnout for Rabun early voting

CLAYTON--Rabun County voters flocked to the polls starting Monday for early voting, and set a county record for the number of votes cast in the first two days of early voting for a presidential election.  “The last two days we have voted 874 people,” said Tammy Whitmire, elections supervisor.
