One killed in Demorest fire

DEMOREST– A Habersham County man was killed in a fire that occurred on Jan. 21. Johnny Lee Higginbotham, 54, was killed in a fire on Habersham Mills Rd. in Demorest around 7:37 a.m. It completely destroyed the 30-year-old, 200-square-foot camper.

Timing was perfect when the Lord Jesus Christ placed Robert “Bob” and Jean Alexander in each other’s lives during a college English class in 1962. The couple met at Bob Jones University after an alphabetical assigned-seating change moved Jean, whose maiden name is Hamilton, to the seat behind Bob.

A man was transported by Air Life helicopter after sustaining burns while attempting to stomp out a hay bale fire Tuesday afternoon. The fire occurred in a field near the intersection of Highway 246 and Lamb Rd.
