Neely remembered as 'coworker and friend'

James Leslie “Les” Neely is remembered by friends and coworkers as someone who was exceptional at his job and always helped everyone he could.  Neely, 53, of Rabun County died on Aug. 19 at Mountain Lakes Medical Center.  He served Rabun County as a code enforcement officer for 28 years.

Joyce Wood Ramey

  Joyce Wood Ramey, 89, passed away to her heavenly home Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, surrounded by her family and friends and extended family. Joyce was a Christian by faith and was a member of Chechero Baptist Church for 38 years. Joyce was born Feb. 7, 1932 in Otto, N.C.

Betty Key Baker

Betty Key Baker, 79, of Tiger, passed away Monday, Aug. 2, 2021 at Habersham Home East.  Born July 2, 1942 in Habersham County, she was the daughter of the late James Robert Key Sr. and Annie Benfield.

Rev. Waymond Lunsford

The Rev. Waymond Lunsford, 92, entered his heavenly home Friday, Aug. 13, 2021.  Born Jan. 22, 1929, along Popcorn Creek in Rabun County, he was the son of the late George Millard and Gene (Holcomb) Lunsford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, J.R.

Brentley James McKay McClain

Baby Boy Brentley James McKay McClain, Infant He was the infant son of James T. McClain and Dana McKay. He was preceded in death by his sister, Brinkley McClain.

Dr. Larry A. Bauman

Dr. Larry A. Bauman, 90, of Evans, formerly of Atlanta, entered into rest Aug. 9, 2021. Born in Nashville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Sue McQuiddy and Lawrence Bauman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Gill; and his wife, Martha.

Charlie Jones Thompson

Charlie Jones Thompson, 90, died Aug. 7, 2021 after several years of declining health.  Born in Eatonton, Putnam County, GA and was known by most of his friends and family as CJ. After completing high school, Charlie joined the Marines and proudly received a sharpshooter medal during training.

Allene J. Church

Allene J. Church, 95, passed away Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021, at her daughter's residence in Clayton. A visitation was held at the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home Sunday, Aug. 15, a graveside service followed at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Thomas Burrell officiating.

Maria Olga Mitcham

Maria Olga Mitcham, 56, of Tiger, died on August 5, 2021. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Beck Funeral Home, Clayton. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 7 at 10 a.m. at St. Helena’s Catholic Church, Clayton.

Jimmy Ray Loudermilk

Jimmy Ray Loudermilk, age 75 of Lakemont, Georgia passed away on August 1, 2021. Jimmy was born the son of the late Ceil Olin Loudermilk and the late Lillie Shirley Loudermilk on May 31, 1946. He was a lifelong resident of Rabun County.
