Slurs, punches at restaurant lead to charges

CLAYTON– A Clayton man faces charges after he reportedly called restaurant drag queen show entertainers homosexual slurs and repeatedly punched the establishment’s owner in the head when he intervened in the altercation.

County approves bid for control valve project

The Rabun County Board of Commissioners approved a bid from Dale Construction for the North Clayton Control Valve in the amount of $168,500 to be paid out of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds at Tuesday’s meeting. The valve would allow for the rehabilitation of the water treatment plant.

Rabun County Planning Commission tables vote on Lake Burton storage units

The Rabun County Planning Commission tabled a rezoning request on Monday from Taywood, LLC to rezone 5.45 acres of land on Bridge Creek Road from Agricultural (A) to Commercial Business (CB) for the development of storage units for boats, RV and self-storage.

County commissioners approve $26.6 million budget

The Rabun County Board of Commissioners approved the $26,663,254 fiscal year 2023 budget at Tuesday’s meeting. The budget details expenditures for General Government; Judicial; Public Safety; Public Works; Health and Welfare; Culture and Recreation; and Housing and Development.

Rabun proclaimed ‘Wooden Boat Capital of Georgia’

All wooden boats lead to Rabun County. The lakes are home to hundreds of wooden boats, many of which have been in families for generations. Boat parades held each year on Lake Rabun and Lake Burton allow families to display the quality and craftsmanship of these vintage wooden boats.

Mountain Education Charter graduates four from Rabun campus

TIGER– The Rabun Campus of Mountain Education Charter High School (MECHS) graduated four students in a June 16 ceremony inside the Fine Arts Building located at Rabun County Schools.
