Sky Valley celebrates Fourth of July with a bang

SKY VALLEY – Fireworks lit up the night sky in Georgia’s highest and coolest city as Sky Valley residents and visitors from all around the area celebrated Independence Day with family, food, fun and patriotic festivities.

Agriculture commissioner nominee visits Rabun County

Tyler Harper, Georgia State Senator for District 7 and Republican nominee for state agriculture commissioner, recently came to Rabun County and visited Osage Farms to talk about the importance of farming and discussed the struggles of farmers today.

Sherry Sue Turpin was charged on June 29 by Rabun County Sheriff’s Office deputies with pedestrian under the influence of alcohol or drugs after witnesses say Turpin climbed off the hood to the truck. The incident caused stopped traffic in both directions.

Woman in underwear arrested after riding on hood of pickup

A Clayton woman was charged by Rabun County Sheriff’s Office deputies after she was found walking in the west-bound lane of a busy Highway 76 after the female, wearing only underwear rode on the hood of a pickup.

Ravin’ in Rabun about America

America celebrated its independence over the extended weekend but few communities displayed the level of patriotism that was evident in Rabun County. From Thursday through the July Fourth Monday, a variety of events were scheduled for people – including multiple fireworks displays.

Scheduled road closure on Old Highway 441

CLAYTON– The portion of Old Highway 441 from Saber Lane to Leaning Chimney Drive in Clayton will be closed for a culvert repair beginning July 11 and open back up July 19, according to Jason Waldroup, public works director.

Dixon sworn in as associate probate court judge

A veteran staff member of the county’s court system has been sworn in as the new associate probate court judge. In front of family and friends at the county courthouse on June 24, Savannah Dixon was sworn in for her new position by Rabun County Probate Court Judge Carlton “Hobie” Jones III.

First responders fare well in Georgia Police and Fire Games

Rabun County was represented in the 2022 Georgia Police and Fire Games held in Hall County last week as one of the county’s first responders claimed top honors.
