Commissioners approve American Rescue Plan Act funds

Commissioners approved a resolution for Rabun County to receive American Rescue Plan Act funds at its Nov. 23 meeting. The American Rescue Plan Act was signed into law on March 11, 2021. It’s the sixth COVID-19 relief bill enacted and provides approximately $1.

Sheriff’s Office deputy involved in crash while responding to call

A Rabun County Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in a minor crash while responding to a four-vehicle crash Friday. Deputy Dakota Dills was involved in a Rabun Gap crash with a tractor trailer while responding to a crash in Dillard.

Rabun County Sheriff’s Office/Detention Center projects progressing

TIGER-- Construction on the new Rabun County Sheriff’s Office and detention center expansion are underway and “progressing nicely,” according to Rabun County Sheriff Chad Nichols. The new 6,000 sq. ft. sheriff’s office building is located across from the detention center on Bowen Creek Rd.

Rabun County 4-Hers win Northeast District Trivia Contest

Rabun County 4-H’ers traveled to Jackson County on Nov. 22 to participate in the Northeast District 4-H Trivia Contest that is held twice a year. Rabun County had held the title until earlier this year when they lost to Jackson County 4-H in a close match.

Library hosts Food for Fines

During December, patrons of the Rabun County Public Library can pay overdue fines with canned food as part of the Food for Fines program. Each canned or non-perishable food item with an unexpired “used-by” date that’s donated pays up to $1 in overdue fines.

Rabun County library hosts ‘Sponsor an Author’ program

The Rabun County Public Library invites patrons and friends to participate in a program to support the library while getting to read books by your favorite authors at reduced cost. This would make a great birthday or holiday gift. You can also sponsor in someone’s memory.

Driver sustains burns in vehicle fire

CLAYTON-- A Clayton man was airlifted after sustaining burns in a vehicle fire in Clayton Monday night. Rabun County Fire Services Station 1 was dispatched to a report of a possible vehicle fire in the vicinity of 173 Payne Hill Dr. in Clayton at approximately 11:45 p.m.
