LAKEMONT-- Rabun County Fire Services recently held live fire training at their Station 4-Lakemont-Wiley Training Facility. The training is part of mandatory training for all Rabun firefighters.

Clayton city manager contract passes in 3-2 vote

A Brookhaven, Ga., man was recovered at the bottom of Tallulah Gorge on Saturday, Oct. 30.

Sky Valley passes $1.2 million budget, 15.6080 millage rate

SKY VALLEY — Sky Valley City Council members voted Oct. 26 on a FY 2022 budget $1,259,477 budget and a 15.6080 millage rate. This is an increase from the FY 2021 budget of $1,121,273 because of a rise in property tax assessments, but the millage rate will remain the same as it has been since 2019.

Rabun County Schools honor Teachers of the Year

TIGER-— Rabun County Schools honored its outstanding teachers at the 2023 Teacher of the Year Banquet Oct. 21. Laura Welborn, Rabun County Primary School; Gretchen Grant, Rabun County Elementary School; and Shelley Drummond, Rabun County High School, were honored as teachers of the year.

Blue BBQ draws more than 200 attendees

Democrats from across Georgia’s 9th Congressional District convened in Clayton at The Parker Ranch last Saturday evening for the third annual Blue BBQ. The event, which was sponsored by the Rabun County Democrats, drew more than 200 attendees.

Rabun County holds REACH signing ceremony for students

TIGER — Rabun County Schools held a REACH scholarship signing ceremony Oct. 21 where five students signed to be part of the program to receive $10,000 in college scholarships.

Rabun voters make their 2021 decisions

The cities of Clayton, Tallulah Falls and Mountain City had elections for mayor and council member positions and Rabun County voters turned out to cast their ballots as incumbents both won and lost.
