County votes in favor of TSPLOST

Rabun County residents voted yes to the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) in Tuesday’s election. The TSPLOST passed with 928 votes and 602 against with a total vote of 1,530. This is the first-ever TSPLOST solely for Rabun County.

Jr. Miss RCHS Scholarship Pageant

Fifteen freshmen and sophomores competed for the title of 2021-2022 Jr. Miss RCHS on Oct. 23. The winner received a $500 scholarship. The Miss RCHS Scholarship will be on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. in the RCHS Fine Arts Building.

Sponsorship for veterans dinner

Forward Rabun and Rabun County Chamber of Commerce board members Suzie Nixon-Flaherty and Tony Penrose joined Rabun Chamber President and Development Director Rick Story Monday morning at the local office of My Georgia Credit Union to receive a top level sponsorship for the upcoming Veterans Dinner.

First Impressions grows in service

First Impressions is a work/need-ready clothes closet that opened its doors Oct. 4, 2011, in a tiny Sunday School classroom at Dillard United Methodist Church. It was originally open one day a week from 9 a.m. to noon and had one volunteer.

Trout hatchery reopens after renovations

A massive renovation effort at the Burton Trout Hatchery culminated last Thursday in a grand re-opening of the facility off Georgia Highway 197. The hatchery is one of three state-operated trout hatcheries that helps produce more than 1 million fish each year for stocking public waters.

Clayton city council tables city manager contract

CLAYTON — Clayton City Council members voted unanimously Tuesday to table a vote on an employment contract proposed by City Manager Michael Esposito. The vote was made after much debate among council members. Esposito gave the proposed contract to council members at an Oct.

Rabun residents vote on county-wide TSPLOST Nov. 2

CLAYTON — Election Day is Nov. 2 and anyone registered to vote in Rabun County, whether in city limits or unincorporated areas, will have the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) on their ballot. If it passes, this will be Rabun County’s first TSPLOST.

Rabun sheriff's office seeking information to locate fugitive

The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on the location of Dalton Randy McKay, who has active felony arrest warrants following an investigation related to overdoses in Rabun County, according to a statement on the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
