Truly hands-on learning at Foxfire

When a group of Rabun County High School students got to take a trip to the Foxfire Museum property in Mountain City for a tour, they probably expected to gain a better understanding of how life was hundreds of years ago. Well, they got that experience and more, including muddy hands.

Two Community Thanksgiving Dinners set for this weekend

Community Thanksgiving Dinners are planned for Nov. 22 and Nov. 23 in Rabun County. A Community Thanksgiving Dinner will be Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. or all dinners distributed. The food bank is located at 46 Plaza Way in Clayton.

Crowning Achievement

The 2025 Miss Rabun County High School Pageant had one of the largest audience turnouts ever as the Princess Academy was held in the Fine Arts Building on campus prior to the crowning of this year’s overall winner Hayden Bass, who earlier this year also was honored as the RCHS Homecoming Queen.

Rabun Gap honors alumni at Homecoming 2025

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School held its annual Alumni Awards Ceremony on Oct. 11 in the Rearden Theater. The ceremony, part of Rabun Gap’s Homecoming celebration, honored alumni for their accomplishments in their careers and contributions to the school.

300-plus pack Dillard House for Veterans Dinner

A sense that America and specifically Rabun County is heading in the right direction was evident with the patriotism in the air at The Dillard House Resport on Nov. 6. An excess of 300 filled the dining area of the iconic restaurant for the 26th annual Veterans Dinner.

School system’s Teachers of the Year honored with banquet, recognitions

Rabun County has an abundance of top-notch teachers. So, to be named among the best of their respective groups is an incredible accomplishment. Rabun County Schools honored their respective schools’ “Teacher of the Year” honorees with a banquet on Nov.

Sky Valley tax vote slated for Nov. 18

The final one of three public hearings is the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 18, for City of Sky Valley’s announced intent to increase the 2025 property taxes it plans to levy this year by 6.62 percent over the rollback millage rate. The millage rate would be 9.6090 for 2025, just like it was for 2024.

Federal food program to be funded for hungry

ATLANTA — The federal government said Friday that it will comply with a judge’s order to issue full benefits for this month to its food assistance program for low-income households. As of The Clayton Tribune’s press deadline, a potential end to the federal government’s shutdown appeared to be near.

Church’s cookbook reprinted as fundraiser

For a fundraiser, Southern Appalachian Creations has had the Persimmon Church of God cookbook, “Hunting, Fishing, Cooking With Our Men” reprinted. It was first printed in the year 2000; the reprint should arrive here about Nov. 12.
