Rabun native is named new County Marshal

 There’s a new marshal in town for 2020, and Tony Galloway is looking forward to helping residents of Rabun County in his new position. Galloway began his role as Rabun County Marshal on January 2.

Rabun County Fire Services responded to 2 structure fires within a 12-hour period beginning on Saturday, Jan. 25 to Sunday, Jan. 26. Rabun County Fire Services were dispatched at 5:28 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 to a report of a structure fire at 697 Oscar Rock Rd. off of Plum Orchard Rd.

Election office gearing up for upcoming races

CLAYTON— Georgia elections are going to look a little different in 2020 with the recent passage of the usage of new voting equipment. The new voting system will provide voters with a paper ballot in addition to a ballot counted electronically.

Mountain City accident results in injuries, one person airlifted

MOUNTAIN CITY— A wreck at the intersection of Highway 441 and Cathey Rd. in Mountain City on Saturday afternoon resulted in one person being airlifted and two people being transported with injuries to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Clayton resolves disputed water bill with county

CLAYTON— Clayton City Council members passed a motion that resolved the heated conflict between the city and the Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority (RCWSA) regarding an August 2019 water bill at the city council meeting on Tuesday.

TFS celebrates payoff for renovations

With a dramatic flourish, school leadership celebrated the pay-off of outstanding debt incurred in 2002 for dorm renovations at Tallulah Falls School. The school retired the $3 million loan for Westmoreland Hall and Fitzpatrick Hall as of Dec. 17, 2019.

Rabun County Fire Services is made up of 150-160 volunteers, and the Lake Burton Civic Association (LBCA) hopes to recruit more volunteer firefighters through a restoration project of a 1949 fire engine, dubbed “Big Red 2.

Lakemont rollover results in DUI charge

LAKEMONT— A Tiger man was arrested for DUI after overturning his vehicle down an embankment on Lake Rabun Road at Appaloosa Lane in Lakemont on Sunday, January 19. Austin Gregory Ramey, 25 of Tiger was the driver of black 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
