RCHS soccer gets draw, loss in trip to Stephens

The Rabun County High soccer teams brought back a draw and a one-goal loss from a non-region doubleheader last Friday night at Stephens County.  The Wildcat boys and girls were scheduled to host Hart County Tuesday, Feb. 23, then open Region 8-AA action Friday at Elbert County.

Ladycats advance to Region 8-AA final

The Rabun County High basketball Ladycats won the two regular-season meetings with Banks County by an average of 23 points.  They didn’t hurt that average last Friday while securing a Region 8-AA finals spot and home-court advantage for the state opener.

Wildcats’ Watts wins state wrestling crown

Rabun County High wrestler Miles Watts admitted nerves when he saw the brackets last week at the Georgia High School Association state traditional meet in Macon.  Four wins later, he earned the title of state champion.  Following a first-round bye, the sophomore won three matches Feb.

RGNS basketball coach Cox gets 300th win

If somebody hadn’t been keeping count, Roger Cox may not have known he reached a milestone recently. That the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee boys basketball head coach achieved his 300th win Feb. 2 was news to him after the Eagles defeated the Asheville School.

Respress beats buzzer, Indians progress

Simeon Respress capped a 20-point night with a buzzer-beating hoop last Saturday, lifting the Tallulah Falls boys over host Athens Academy, 61-59 and into the Region 8-A Private championship game.

Eagle boys top Christ School in state opener

Sinking 16 three-pointers, the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee boys cagers flew away in the second half and crushed visiting Christ School, 95-68 in the first round of the state tournament Tuesday night.

Athens Academy trips TFS in 8-A Private girls final

The Tallulah Falls girls basketball team brought home a runner-up finish from the Region 8-A Private tournament at Athens Academy.  The Lady Indians rolled into the final by trouncing George Walton last Friday, but the host school took the title, 45-35 Tuesday night.
