NEW ORLEANS -- It was an emotional few days in the city of New Orleans as thousands attempted to enjoy the New Year’s Eve/Day festivities, while many were in town to watch the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs take on No. 7 Notre Dame in the 91st Allstate Sugar Bowl on Thursday, Jan. 2.

The Consummate Coach: Remembering Sonny Smart

Sonny Smart, the father of Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart and Rabun County resident and former Wildcat coach, passed away due to hip surgery complications after falling in New Orleans, La., early on Saturday, Jan. 4.

Providence Day snaps RGNS girls’ 10-game win streak

After losing three of its first four games, the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School girls basketball team now has an 11-4 record and is eyeing another deep playoff run in 2025.  The Eagles just finished the first half of their 2024-25 season, going 10-1 in their last 11 contests.

Rabun County High School senior and two-sport athlete Jacie McCall signed her national letter of intent to play softball for Emmanuel University on Friday, Dec. 6.

RCHS boys notch latest double-digit win

The Rabun County High School boys basketball team defeated West Oak (S.C) 80-46 at home on Friday, Dec. 20, to head into Christmas Day on a very strong note.  With the victory, RCHS improved to 10-2 on the season and currently rank as the fourth-best team in Georgia Class A-Division I.

RCHS wrestling earns strong showing at Habersham Invitationals

The Rabun County High School boys and girls wrestling teams competed in the Raider and Lady Raider Invitationals at Habersham Central on Saturday, Dec. 7.  Three Lady Cats posted performances good enough to earn them within the top three of their respective weight classes.

Rabun Gap celebrates 19 college athletic signees to pace largest signing class ever

The Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School is on pace to have the largest athletic signing class in the school’s history.  Nineteen RGNS athletes celebrated the signing of their national letters of intent on Wednesday, Dec. 4, to their respective collegiate programs, representing four different sports.
