Visitors near & far flock to annual Heritage Days

MOUNTAIN CITY– Crowds from Rabun County and surrounding areas and states flocked to the Foxfire Museum and Heritage Center June 9-10 to see Appalachian Culture come to life during Heritage Days.
Tom Adams Construction, of Rabun Gap, works to demolish the Rabun County Golf Club building. Demolition is underway after the strength of the building was compromised following a Dec. 23, 2021, structure fire. The building will be built back similarly with the golf carts relocated to the maintenance shed.

Tribune staff claims press association honors

JEKYLL ISLAND, GA. – The Georgia Press Association honored The Clayton Tribune and other state winners of the 2023 Better Newspaper Contest on June 9 at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel during the group’s 136th annual convention.

Dump truck overturns

A dump truck overturned on Bald Mountain Road near Sky Valley and left a Franklin, N.C., man with suspected serious injuries June 6 around 10:23 a.m.

CLAYTON– A Mack truck crash at the intersection of Warwoman Road and Poly Gap Road in Clayton June 1 caused a road closure and left area residents without power for several hours. A white 2018 Mack 600 MH600 with a Baldwin, Ga. Fieldale Farms logo, driven by Joel Ken Dockery, 55 of Dahlonega, Ga.

Local events raise $1,676 for Rabun Paws 4 Life

The community supported Rabun Paws 4 Life through adoption and fundraising events Saturday, June 3, as the adoption event at Sole Place Shoes & Western Wear in Clayton and the fundraiser at Universal Joint in Clayton raised $1,676.

“It takes 13 muscles to smile and 32 muscles to frown, so why not smile?” This is Ervin Chastain’s philosophy on life every day as he fellowships with friends at Mountain View Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clayton and tells stories of his adventures.
