County approves preliminary budget at $28 million

The Rabun County Board of Commissioners approved the preliminary budget for FY 2024 in the amount of $28,336,468 during a special called meeting Thursday, May 25. This is about a $1,255,00 increase from last year’s budget, CFO David Conley explained during the meeting.

Foxfire writing contest winner

Sixth grader Audrey Sepulveda, center, is the winner of the Foxfire Spring Writing Contest for kids ages 6-12 at the Rabun County Public Library. The topic was Woodland Animal Story. Sepulveda said she was “excited” her story about a bunny being saved from a fox won the contest.

Chasing waterfalls leads to winning photo

One of the things Donna Shirley of Cornelia loves most is traveling around Northeast Georgia and up the Blue Ridge Parkway with her husband, Hoke, and their dog, Daisy, to chase waterfalls, see beautiful scenery and take photographs. And that hobby has paid off.

Lake Burton Civic Association hosts ‘Clean Up the Lake Day’

CLAYTON – The Lake Burton Civic Association (LBCA) hosted a “Clean Up the Lake Day” on Friday, May 12. The event was a success, with 39 LBCA members and volunteers, a Rabun Search and Rescue crew, plus a Georgia Power crew helping to remove a dumpster of trash from the lake.

134 Wildcats earn high school diplomas on May 26

One hundred thirty-four seniors from the Rabun County High School Class of 2023 received their diplomas on May 26 at Frank Snyder Memorial Stadium. After walking into the stadium as students one last time, RCHS honor graduate Rainny Ramey gave the welcome and the invocation.

Rabun County will be filled with many events this weekend in honor of Memorial Day Monday, May 29. On Sunday, May 28, Lake Rabun Association will present scholarships to students at Rabun County High School and Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School beginning at 10 a.m. at the Lake Rabun Pavilion.
